Below is a gallery of photos documenting the painting of the mural “Communion with the Sea”, designed and painted by artist Rigel Sauri. The mural covers the facade of the municipal government building in Telchac Puerto, a town located on the Gulf of Mexico coast in Yucatan, Mexico. The mural was donated by the artist, and is the beginning of a project exploring positive transformation through Art. Painting will continue on the mural (fish and other sea life still to be added), and in the town around the main square and elsewhere. Rigel wants to "paint the whole town"! The mural was painted during two trips in February-March, and June-July 2008. When we approached the Municipal President of Telchac about the project, he was enthusiastic about the idea and has been supportive throughout the painting, providing the scaffolding and other equipment. The staff at the municipal palace and the people of Telchac have also been incredibly generous and helpful to us and excited about the project. Rigel is originally from Merida, the capital of Yucatan, about an hour drive from Telchac Puerto. He has been an artist living and working in the United States since 1989, while continuing to visit his original home in Mexico. He has long dreamed of bringing his love of art back to Mexico.
